All over the world, people are choosing to trade their gas-fueled cars for electric. And not just because of their eco-friendly credentials – they’re also a joy to drive. Smooth, quiet, and nippy, many people who swap say they’ll never go back.

Electric vehicles are another weapon in the battle against climate change and it’s likely that many of us will move to electric over the coming years. The International Energy Agency says the number of electric vehicles on the world’s roads is likely to reach 145 million by 2030.

Why go electric?

Gas-fueled cars pump out damaging carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming. And in built-up areas, regularly breathing in fumes from heavy traffic can lead to serious heart and lung problems.

There are no nasty emissions from electric vehicles’ exhausts, which is the main reason that driving electric is greener and healthier. You can even charge your car using renewables – if you have solar panels, for example, or by choosing a green energy supplier.

Is electric for you?

Two of the biggest concerns people have over going electric are range and cost. Yes, some electric cars can be pricier to buy, but you’ll save a lot on fuel and maintenance.

These days, most new electric cars can go over 200 miles on a single charge. If you have a home charger, it’s easy to charge overnight a couple of times a week. And there are charge points popping up all over in many countries – in workplaces, supermarket car parks, and motorway service stations – so it’s getting easier by the day to charge up.

Of course, it’s not environmentally friendly just to dump all our old petrol and diesel cars and switch to electric. But a gradual move to electric will have a positive impact on our planet and our health.
