We’re using too much of our planet’s finite natural resources, and time is running out to turn the tide. So it’s crucial that every one of us is mindful of what we consume.
Keeping the three Rs in mind – reduce, reuse, recycle – is a good way to cut down on how much we generate and consume.
Reduce
Do you really need another new pair of shoes, to refurbish your kitchen again, or to buy yet more ‘stuff’? If not, don’t buy it. And be careful of what you consume, too. Turn off lights when you’re not in the room, don’t leave the tap running when brushing teeth, and walk or cycle instead of driving.
Reuse
This is about using the things you already have. Perhaps plan a clothes swap with friends, mend that broken zip, re-heel that pair of shoes. Could someone else use your old baby stroller? Can you repurpose some old garden fencing into something you can use? Or refurbish a tired piece of furniture?
Recycle
Last up – recycle as much as you can. It pays to make the effort, as the less that goes to landfill, the better.
These might sound like small things and, on their own, each action might be. But if we all do this, most of the time, it adds up to a whole lot more.
Sustainability is vital to us at Ortho, and we’re constantly striving to be considerate of the earth and its resources. So far, we’ve recycled 400 tons of medical waste into plastic construction materials, and we’re committed to reducing the impact we have on the planet.
