We could all do with a bit of good news, so today we’d like to shine a spotlight on some of the brighter climate change stories. There’s no denying that our beautiful but fragile planet is struggling. The planet’s temperature is rising, the ocean is warming, sea levels are rising, and glaciers and ice sheets are retreating and shrinking.
But it’s not all doom and gloom. There are encouraging acts, events, deals, and projects springing to life as the world takes action on climate change.
Here are just a few feel-good stories from the past year:
- Israel and Jordan have signed a breakthrough water-for-energy deal that will see Israel provide desalinated water to water-scarce Jordon in return for solar energy.
- The UN’s Human Rights Council has for the first time passed a resolution recognizing access to a healthy and sustainable environment as a universal right.
- Global renewable energy generation is accelerating fast, and looking set to rise.
- The USA officially rejoined the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
- China’s giant pandas have moved from endangered to vulnerable, with a steadily increasing population after almost 30 years of recovery efforts.
