Our whole body works better when we’re hydrated –everything from brain function and skin health to digestive function and energy levels.
But freshwater, which we use for things like drinking, washing and agriculture, is scarce – and getting scarcer. Around 2.2 billion people, more than a quarter of the world’s population, don’t have easy access to enough water. This crisis is becoming worse through the double whammy of climate change and rising demand from a growing population and changing food requirements.
Conserving water is everyone’s concern
At Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, our goal of protecting lives goes hand in hand with protecting our planet. We’re firmly committed to saving water and being as sustainable as we can in everything we do.
World Water Day, on 22 March this year, was created to raise awareness of the worldwide water crisis. Every government, company and organisation needs to step up to the challenge – and each one of us can do our bit, too.
Here are some easy ways you can help save water:
- Don’t let taps run while you brush your teeth
- Take shorter showers or shallow baths
- Catch rainwater in a water butt
- Fix leaks in pipework and plumbing
- Eat seasonally, cut down on meat and dairy, and waste less food
- Use a broom rather than a hose to clean driveways and patios
- Never water the garden in the heat of the day, as most will just evaporate
Water is vital to human survival, so it’s essential to find better ways to use, manage and conserve this precious resource. We can all make a difference.
