And it’s not just down to world leaders – we can all have an influence on the world around us with actions large and small.

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”  Desmond Tutu

Making sure that every small thing you do or say is kind, compassionate, gentle and positive can make a lasting difference to yourself and the people around you. It’s been shown to boost wellbeing, improve relationships and increase happiness. An unpleasant interaction leaves a sour taste for everyone – a pleasant one spreads all kinds of good feelings.

Spread a little sunshine

On a planet struggling with negativity, conflict and discord, kindness matters. Help make the world a better place by smiling at a stranger, giving someone the benefit of the doubt, wholeheartedly celebrating others’ successes, helping someone who’s struggling to lift something heavy, or giving a compassionate listening ear to someone who needs one.

The more you get into the habit, the easier it will be for this to be your natural way of thinking and behaving.

And kindness and positivity are catching, so as we approach this International Day of Peace, it’s a good time to make a real effort to create a ripple effect of lovely things. It’s good for you and for those around you – so let’s all do our bit to spread peace and harmony.
